Here we are at week 2 of the Weekly Print Series and I'm already feeling challenged by what I've set out to do this year. In the best way. I love how it's pushing me to try new mediums and styles. I painted this with GOUACHE! It's not a PUPPY! And even though I'm exhausted after a full weekend playing in the snow with Beau and Walter and all I really want to be doing right now is sleeping, I'm loving this sense of purpose that comes along with setting aside time to write and push paint around.
This week's print is called Stormy Sky. I resurrected my Pinterest account lately in hopes that I'd find some inspiration for this series, and the other day I came across this lovely photo of a storm rolling in over the ocean.
I was struck by the stillness of the water in the midst of what looks to be a powerful storm. I love the subtle shifts in color and the softness of the clouds. And it got me thinking. I'm sure that many people would look at this photo and focus on the negative. Big ominous clouds looming over a tiny stretch of ocean, bringing with them trouble and hardship and darkness. But for some reason, I look at this photo and feel peace.
I don't think anyone's life is without darkness. But I do believe that we have a choice in how we respond to it. Our thoughts matter. Our actions. Our words. If we choose to seek beauty, even in those dark moments, we can endure, overcome and even appreciate the hardships with which we are faced.
All this to say, I decided to recreate the scene and infuse a little bit of the peacefulness that I felt when I saw the photo. I hope that Stormy Sky reminds you that you are even more powerful than the storms that you'll face. That you don't have to be controlled by your circumstances. That you can choose joy and beauty and lightness, even when it feels like there's none to be found.
Love and Respect,
P.S. Stormy Sky will be 10% off in the shop until Sunday night. Thanks again for all of the love and support over the past week. It means the world!
