Hi friends! Happy Monday! I'm back with another Celebration Series interview, and this time we're talking to the ever so lovely Erin McKendry of Elm Atlanta! Erin and I were in the same sorority back at the University of Georgia and if you can believe it, she's even more kind than she is beautiful. Erin has always gone above and beyond for her friends and family and is an absolute joy to be around. I'm so thankful to know her and be inspired by her talent and entrepreneurial spirit. :)
Erin is a ridiculously talented interior designer and recently started a business selling and designing homes in the Atlanta area with her sister. I'm consistently impressed by the beautiful work she's putting into the world and knew that I had to get her to share some of her wisdom with y'all. So here it is!
Give us a quick background on who you are and what you do for work.
I grew up in Roswell, GA and studied interior design in the art school at The University of Georgia. I am a real estate agent and interior designer. I am in business with my sister and our company is Elm Atlanta. We specialize in buying and selling Atlanta real estate, as well as designing residential interiors.
What about your work brings you the most joy and fulfillment?
Honestly, I LOVE my job. I am so passionate about helping clients find and/or create a home they love. It's so important to be in a space you enjoy coming home to everyday and I feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to work with so many wonderful people.
Who or what is inspiring you right now?
Oh gosh, so many things! I'm inspired by the vision of finding a property for a client and turning it into their dream home. It's hard for some people to see, but I like to think that I see the untapped potential in property and all the future possibilities.
What has been difficult lately?
I would say managing my time between both industries and managing our business. Running your own business can be difficult at times, but it is so rewarding!
What makes you different from everyone else in the world and how does that uniqueness manifest itself in your work and life?
I truly love serving people. My desire is to make the process as seamless and easy as possible for my clients. The home search and design process can be stressful, but it can also be a lot of fun if you hire the right fit.
What's your Meyers-Briggs personality type?
Tell us about an embarrassing childhood memory.
Sleep walking at a friends house. It is something I have always done and I am convinced I can't stop :) My poor husband has to listen to me sleep talk every night.
What's the longest amount of time you've gone without showering?
Probably 4 days. One of my favorite places to be is at our family's lake house, so if we are in the water all day, showering usually gets put on the back burner, especially if it means more time on the water during daylight.
What's your guilty pleasure?
I hate to admit it, but reality tv. I am a sucker for the bachelorette.
If you owned a food truck, what would you serve and why?
Mexican, I could live off chips and queso for the rest of my life.
Erin, thanks so much for sharing some of your story and work on the blog! I'm so grateful for you and excited for what's to come for you in the year ahead. :)
Love & Respect,
