Working hard, or hardly working?
I’m still pinching myself over the fact that we live here. We’ve spent the last few days unpacking (no more living out of suitcases! 🙌), hanging art, and hitting up all the local thrift stores. We joined a gym, hosted our first dinner party, and scored a babysitter for a night out with friends at @bendbrewfest. Bend is already starting to feel like home, and it feels really, really good. ❤️

Banff (2 of 2) ...In a similar way, you may be tempted to swipe through my photos and imagine that our trip was without difficult moments. As many of you know, traveling with a toddler can be a LOT. Miles was quite a trooper, but there were many moments where she was OVER being strapped in the car seat/hiking backpack. There were a handful of tantrums on the trail and a fair bit of whining. Beau and I ended up trading off watching her the last two days while the others adventured in order to get her naps and some semblance of normalcy. Was it worth the effort? Absolutely! We had a fantastic time and saw some of the most beautiful places we’ve ever seen. And we have the most patient, loving friends who helped us and kept us laughing along the way. All that to say, I hope that these words put the photos in context. Yes, it was a lovely, memorable trip. But it was also hard at times. While beautiful social media posts make it tempting to compare or feel envious, remember that there’s likely something that was cropped out. Like 15,000 other tourists and/or a screaming toddler 🙃. And when YOU are the one in a beautiful place, take your photo and then put your phone away and enjoy the moment. ❤️
Banff (1 of 2) Heading home from our road trip through eastern Oregon and the Canadian rockies. We hiked a lot of miles, jumped in glacial fed lakes, played some heated games of spades, and memorized a lot of obnoxious kid songs while trying to entertain Miles in the car. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. But as I bombard your feed with tons of beautiful photos, I feel the need to say that the pictures don’t tell the whole story. While many of these places were far more gorgeous in person, there’s also a lot more lying outside of the frame. For example, Lake Louise is one of the most photographed places in Banff. You’ve probably seen its surreal blue water all over Instagram and imagined what it might be like to stand there and peacefully take in the view. But the reality is that up to 15,000 people visit this site EVERY DAY. The parking lot often fills up by 6am and the shuttle to get there can be a 2 hour wait. And then once (and if!) you DO get there, you’re surrounded by tourists all clamoring to get “the shot”. While our photos at Lake Louise ARE beautiful, I wouldn’t say that that moment was particularly enjoyable. That experience led to a great conversation about whether or not Instagram has “ruined” some of these natural wonders. Is our true motivation to enjoy the moment, or is it more about getting a slam dunk social media post? (continued in next post)
